“Homemade Chicken Pizza with White Sauce: A Flavorful Twist on Classic Pizza” :-
I have always been a fan of experimenting with pizza, from classic pepperoni to unconventional toppings like barbecue chicken or buffalo sauce. But one day, I stumbled upon the idea of chicken pizza with white sauce. Initially, I was skeptical. “How would the flavors work together?” I wondered. However, after giving it a try, I was hooked. The creamy white sauce paired with tender chicken created a completely different and delightful flavor . The first time I made this, I used leftover grilled chicken and a simple homemade white sauce. I was amazed at how the rich, velvety sauce complemented the slightly crispy pizza crust.
Since then, it has become a regular part of my recipe rotation. Every time I make it, I tweak something whether it’s the seasoning, adding extra vegetables, or even adjusting the sauce to discover new nuances in the flavor. I’m super excited to share my recipe with you guys!! Let’s get started with introducing the elements which we need to make the delicious versions of chicken pizza with white sauce.
Ingredients for chicken pizza with white sauce :
For preparing dough :-
- Active dry yeast
- Sugar
- warm water (around 110°F or 45°C)
- all-purpose flour (you can substitute whole wheat flour or Gluten-free flour for a healthier version)
- olive oil
- salt
For the White Sauce :
- Butter
- All purpose flour
- Milk (used whole milk for extra creaminess)
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- A pinch of nutmeg
For the Toppings :
- Cooked chicken (grilled, roasted, or even shredded from a rotisserie chicken)
- sliced mushrooms
- Thinly sliced small onion
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnishing
Active dry yeast :
This gives the dough a light, airy texture and makes the pizza crust soft and chewy. Yeast also adds flavor by fermenting the sugars in the dough and giving the pizza crust a slightly tangy taste. It’s easy to use, long-lasting, and ideal for getting a fluffy, soft texture in homemade pizza dough.
All-purpose flour :
All-purpose flour is also versatile and widely available, making it a convenient choice for homemade pizza dough. If you want a gluten-free version, then you have to replace all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour. You can also use bread flour, almond flour, or whole wheat flour.
Cooked Chicken :
Pre-cooked chicken maintains a tender, juicy texture, avoiding the risk of becoming dry or tough during the quick bake time. So make sure you have to grill the chicken, or you may use a roasted one and Cooking the chicken beforehand allows you to season it for added flavor, enhancing the overall taste of the pizza.
Parmesan cheese :
It blends well with other cheeses like mozzarella, creating a more complex flavor profile, and it adds a nice, slightly crunchy texture when sprinkled on top after baking. It helps make the pizza look more appealing when it browns slightly.
Stepping towards chicken Pizza with white sauce :-
Prepare the dough :-
• You can of course use store-bought dough, but I find that homemade dough makes a huge difference in taste and texture. Plus, making your own dough gives a personal touch to your pizza. First, you need to activate the yeast. Take a small bowl and mix the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
• In a large bowl, combine the all- purpose flour and salt, then pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil, then mix until a dough forms. It’s better to use a wooden spoon or a stand mixer with a dough hook. Then Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic.
• If your dough is too sticky, then add a little more flour as needed and Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Prepare the white sauce :-
• Making a white sauce is easier than you might think. It’s a basic sauce made with butter, flour, and milk, but it adds a creamy richness to the pizza that pairs perfectly with the chicken. Your sauce begins with melting the butter. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once the butter is melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes. This helps get rid of the raw flour, then Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Keep cooking and stirring until the sauce thickens—about 5-7 minutes you need to cook your sauce.
• Then stir in the Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. If you want to add an extra layer of flavor, throw in a tiny pinch of nutmeg. Now your sauce is ready, and you have to remove the sauce from the heat and set aside.
Prepare the topping :-
• While the dough is rising and the sauce is cooling, now it’s time to prepare the toppings. If you’re using raw chicken, you need to cook it by grilling, baking, or pan-frying. Mostly I like to marinate mine in olive oil, lemon, garlic, and Italian herbs for added flavor, then slice the cooked chicken into bite-sized pieces. After that, you have to thinly slice the mushrooms and onions. You can sauté them for a couple of minutes if you like them softer on your pizza. Otherwise, they’ll cook perfectly in the oven.
• Your chicken pizza with white sauce is almost ready!! You have to assemble it and bake for some time. Set your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have pizza stone, then place it in the oven while it preheats.Once your dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two portions if you want two medium pizzas. Roll out the dough on a floured surface until it’s your desired thickness (I like fairly thin for a crispy crust).
• Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a pizza peel or baking sheet, then spoon a generous amount of white sauce onto the dough, making sure to spread it out evenly and leaving about a half-inch border around the edges. Layer the chicken, mushrooms, onions, and any other toppings you like, and lastly, you have to sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the top. Place your pizza in the oven on a preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Then bake for about 12–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
• Once the pizza is out of the oven, add some fresh basil or parsley for a burst of color and freshness. You can also add shredded mozzarella cheese on the topping for extra cheesiness. Let the pizza cool for a couple of minutes before slicing it up and serving. Now your chicken pizza with white sauce is ready to eat!!!
Layering Tips for your chicken pizza with white sauce:-
For the best texture, spread the white sauce directly on the crust, followed by a light sprinkle of cheese. Then, add your cooked chicken, and top with more cheese . This layering method helps the chicken sit above the sauce, preventing it from sinking in and losing its texture, while allowing the sauce to bake into the dough
